Story Party

Today we received a lovely thank you card from Seven Stories, National Centre for Children’s Books  to thank us for our donation to their ‘Yule Make a Difference Christmas Campaign’. Here is what it said:

“On Thursday 12 December children at The Great North Children’s Hospital enjoyed a Story Party as part of the Seven Stories ‘Yule Make a Difference Campaign’ thanks to a kind donation from Kids 1st.

Some of the children were very poorly so our storyteller delivered stories on a one-to-one basis. One little girl had just been given her medication and was very tired but still managed to enjoy the sensory elements of the story, including feathers as snowflakes. Her mum was delighted as she knew she was listening and enjoying the experience. Other children managed to participate in the full Story Party, helping Maisie Mouse to find her friends during an action-packed story time with games and songs. One child especially liked bouncing the animals on the lycra blanket and everyone enjoyed the visit from our giant Maisy Mouse!

They all had a wonderful time and the Play Specialist on the ward was so grateful for the gift.

The storyteller said: “the mothers were very happy and I think they benefited from it as much as the children. The intimacy of the occasion was very poignant and powerful.”

The first book package has been delivered, with another two following during 2014, so your gift will continue to give for the whole year.”

We are thrilled that our donation has been so gratefully received and we are very proud to be supporting Seven Stories and The Great North Children’s Hospital.
