JOB DESCRIPTION

RESPONSIBLE TO: Nursery Manager

POSITION: Supply contract – with immediately start if possible.

QUALIFICATIONS: NVQ LEVEL 2 in childcare is essential and further training to level 3 will be expected.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

To assist the Nursery Nurses in the care and development of children between the ages of 6 weeks and 5 years. To help to provide a happy, safe and stimulating environment where the children will have the opportunity to develop play and learn new skills. To work as part of a team promoting good working practices to ensure high quality of care is provided.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

1. To assist in the preparation and setting up of activities relevant to room plans.

2. To assist the Nursery Nurses to follow daily routines of specific rooms and for individual children. You will be assigned as a key person to a group of children. You will be expected to observe and record what the children do and plan the next steps for the children’s play, learning and development with regard to EYFS.

3. To carry out nappy changing and toilet duties promoting good hygiene practices at all times.

4. To supervise or feed children at mealtimes encouraging a positive attitude to food and meal times.

5. To care and comfort any child who becomes ill whilst at nursery.

6. To understand instruction and clearly follow the work schedules laid down within the time limits.

7. To work as part of a team taking direction from Nursery Nurses/Senior staff and to be able to adapt to different circumstances and new methods.

8. To assist the Nursery Nurses in written plans and implementation of the EYFS curriculums.

9. To be fully aware of and implement nursery policies and procedures. To include all health & safety policies and procedures for accident/incident reporting.

10. To accompany and supervise children on trips and outings outside of the nursery.

11. To have an awareness of the children’s ability and organize activities appropriate to their interests and stage of development.

12. To act as a positive role model to both children and other staff members.

13. To attend meetings outside of normal working hours. i.e. staff meetings and parents evenings.

14. To attend any mandatory training or other training to aid professional development pertinent to the role.

15. To contribute to the work required to enable the nursery to receive a Quality Assurance Award

16. On occasion to take responsibility for the children in the room when working on shift patterns that include the beginning or the end of the day.

17. To develop positive working relationships between children and parents, maintaining confidentiality at all times.

18. Any other duties laid down by the Nursery Manager
