Kids 1st in the Kitchen – Spring 2013

In the first blog post from Kids 1st in the Kitchen, Sean McArdle, Head of Catering, will put the spotlight on his team of Chefs and tell you about their roles at Kids 1st.

Our Chefs

Each Kids 1st Nursery has a dedicated Chef that prepares and cooks your child’s meals every day. Our Chefs start work from
7.30am and can work up until 5pm. The Chefs are supported by Second Chefs, David Johnson – Relief Chef Manager, Del Penman – Catering Development Manager and myself.

A day in the life of a Kids 1st Chef

The day of a Kids 1st Chef starts with opening the kitchen, checking and putting away deliveries followed by preparing and serving breakfast. After breakfast time the Chefs clear the dining rooms and prepare the children’s snacks. Once the snacks have been distributed to the rooms, each Chef prepares and serves lunch – this is the busiest time of the day! Once lunch is finished and all dishes are washed it is time to start again for tea, this is usually served late afternoon. The last part of the day is a final clean down and planning for the next day.

Meet the Kids 1st Chefs

In each of my blog posts I will share a quote from one of our Chefs to tell you about their experiences of working at Kids 1st, first up is Fran from Kids 1st Low Fell:

Fran - Head Chef at Kids 1st Low Fell

“I have worked at Kids 1st for just over 6 years and in my role I feel I am appreciated by both my colleagues and parents. Kids 1st has provided me with many opportunities to input my ideas for new menus and I have been allowed me to use my own
recipes. These recipes are now on the nursery menus which I am very proud of. I thoroughly enjoy receiving positive feedback from parents regarding children’s dietary requirements and their experiences of the nursery food. I love to cook with the children and I feel this is the most enjoyable aspect of my job.“

At Kids 1st we spend a lot of time researching and designing our menus in a bid to help all of our children on their way to a long and healthy life and I hope you have found this information useful.
