Kids 1st Darlington remembrance orchard

Last week we honoured the memory of Denise, a very special woman who was based in our baby room at Kids 1st Darlington. Recently a parent of two of our former children approached us with a wonderful idea.

Ken Whitley’s children Shingai and Farai have fond memories of Denise from when they attended Kids 1st Darlington a few years ago and they wanted to do something nice to pay tribute.

Ken came in to visit the nursery and asked if he could plant a mini orchard in her honour. He is the Managing Director of Tree Appeal – an innovative company that plants trees to promote biodiversity, create habitats and help the environment. Ken kindly donated five beautifully established pink blossom apple trees for our garden.

Thanks to Ken, we now have a lovely space in our garden specially dedicated to her. We even had a visit from a few of Denise’s family members, so they could take a look at the new orchard planted in her memory. It is a lovely tribute to an amazing woman and we can’t wait to see the trees grow! We are sure the children will enjoy playing amongst them and watching the blossom flutter about in the spring.
