Kids 1st get creative – Make your own play dough

Playing with dough is a great way to help develop your child’s motor skills and creativity. It is very easy to make play dough at home and is a fun little rainy day activity to do with your children.

There are lots of recipes for play dough out there, but one of our favourites has to be the below.

250g plain flour
50g salt
1 to 2 tablespoons cooking oil
140ml water
1-2 drops of food colouring (optional)

Step 1
In a large bowl mix the flour and salt together until combined.

Step 2
Once the flour and salt is combined add the water and oil, mixing well until it forms a nice dough.

Step 3
Knead the dough together for around 10 minutes until the dough is smooth. At this point you can add more flour or water to alter the consistency until the mixture is smooth and not sticky.

Step 4
Once you have the right consistency you can choose to add food colouring or even glitter to give the dough a extra special look. If you are adding food colouring – add a drop at a time, kneading until all the colouring is combined and you have the desired colour you are after.

Step 5
Once you have mixed and kneaded the dough, place it in a freezer bag in the fridge until it is chilled enough to use.
