In this month’s interview, we catch up with our Kids 1st Bowesfield Nursery Manager Jodie Hall.

Name: Jodie Hall

Position: Nursery Manager

Number of years at Kids 1st: 8

Number of years in your profession: 16

What did you want to be when you were younger?
I always said I wanted to be a teacher when I was younger, but when I approached my teens it became evident that a career in early years was much more suitable for me. I adore babies and young children and knew that this role was the right one for me.

What made you want to become a Nursery Manager?
I have always loved working within a nursery environment and the more time I spent at Kids 1st, the more I knew I wanted to work my way up and run my very own. I love training and supporting others! I have a knack for bringing out the best in people and being a manager allows me to do this on a daily basis, whilst enjoying being around our lovely children. No two days are the same in this job and I love the variety of what we do.

What is a typical day like?
Busy! The morning usually consists of meeting and greeting parents and supporting the rooms over the busy breakfast period. Once all the staff team are in, I usually try to focus on my admin. I also tend to meet with my staff to discuss my observations and plan for the day ahead.

At around 10am I usually show potential new families around the nursery and then at 11am its time to help out with dinners!

After helping and supporting staff with their busy lunch time period, it is time to start the afternoon. This usually consists of showing more potential families around the nursery at 2pm and then spending time settling in any new children that are on their introductory sessions. I also support new parents whilst their children are on settling in sessions.

I always manage to find the time for a cuddle with the babies and a quick chat with the older children before focusing on tasks within the office.
Throughout any day my main focus is being the face of the nursery, meeting and greeting parents – as well as supporting my staff and the children.

What’s the best thing about your job?
All of it! If I had to choose one thing in particular, I would say my team. It is a pleasure coming to work every day with such amazing people.

What is your favourite children’s book?
I love the Smartest Giant in town – I feel the story teaches the children to be selfless and kind to others.

What is your favourite children’s film?
Finding Nemo, I love watching this with my step son. Although I think he is out growing it now – I am definitely not!

What is your favourite animal and why?
I love giraffes! I think they are so elegant

What is your top childcare tip?
Be passionate about what you do! If you are having fun the children will too!
